My favourite things {for April!}

I’m regularly asked for recommendations on nutrition and lifestyle related books, programmes, food, recipes, podcasts and kitchen gadgets etc, so thought it would be helpful to share some of the things I’m loving with you every month. WHAT I’VE EATEN ….

A friend of mine kindly shared their pickings of foraged wild garlic the other day and it reminded me just how much I love it! This is the time of year to find it in woodland areas and green spaces. It has a pungent garlicky aroma but unlike regular garlic – you’ll know it from its green pointed leaves and white flowers -both of which can be eaten. (but don’t mistake it for Lily of the Valley which is poisonous!).

Wild garlic can be added to pesto, soups and salads. Apart from its mellow garlic flavour, this leafy herb has natural antioxidant and blood pressure lowering properties. So, with walking pretty much the only activity on the cards just now, this is the perfect time to go foraging for some.  

WHAT I’M USING IN THE KITCHEN…..

I’ve had my Nutri Bullet for years – I now can’t remember life before it!

I use it to prepare pesto and salsa and often to puree onion and garlic to add to a dish where I don’t want the bits but do want the flavour. Smoothies are back on the menu now that the weather has warmed up and my kids regularly create healthy…ish milkshakes in the bullet too!

WHAT I’VE LISTENED TO ….

This is an amazing conversation between the wonderful story-teller Brene Brown – social scientist, researcher and author, and Dr Philippa Grange psychologist and author who was famously lauded for contributing to the England football team’s success during the 2018 world cup.

Dr Grange discusses amongst other things the fear of not being good enough. This is something I explore with many of my clients where their relationship with food is explicably tied in with low self-worth.
