A surprising new discovery; why dieting could cause you to gain weight

Discover why dieting, may be causing you to eventually pile on the pounds!

Would you try anything at any cost to shrink your body size? Perhaps you have been driven out of desperation to lose weight, to try diet, after diet, after diet.  If you feel this way, you are certainly not alone. It’s estimated that around six out of ten women are on a diet most of the time.

But how would you feel if I told you that the action you are taking to achieve you’re your ultimate goal of weight loss, might actually be causing you to gain weight?

I have written a number of articles about why diets fail in the long term, but recent research has thrown up a new theory about how dieting affects our physiology.

Researchers have discovered that calorie restrictive diets cause a surprising phenomenon within our fat cell’s mitochondria (These are the mini organs inside our cells, that act like Duracell batteries providing energy to every cell in our body). It seems that this form of dieting can result in the fat cell’s mitochondria becoming out of tune, resulting in a reduced activity level and causing more fat to accumulate within the fat cells.

This may be the reason why fat tissue rapidly builds up again after weight loss- also known as ‘rebound’ weight gain. Most people eventually experience this after dieting, but end up feeling that somehow they have failed.

But please know this -there is an alternative to the misery of feeling like a failure and dieting all your life. I work with my clients both in a one-to-one capacity and within small groups to support them to transform their relationship with food, their body and their life.
