My favourite things {for May!}

I’m regularly asked for recommendations on nutrition and lifestyle related books, programmes, food, recipes, podcasts and kitchen gadgets etc, so thought it would be helpful to share some of the things I’m loving with you every month. I would love to hear what you think and if there’s something you are enjoying too – do hit reply and let me know!

WHAT I’M USING ON MY SKIN ….

I’m a big fan of the Sukin skin care range, it contains only natural non-GMO ingredients with no sulphates or parabens is vegan and cruelty free. I’ve found it one of the most reasonably priced natural skin care brands on the market often with a cost advantage to non-natural brands too.

Most non-natural skincare products contain chemicals that contribute to the toxic load in the body and may disrupt hormone balance. These include sulfates, such as sodium lauryl and sodium laureth- harsh detergents that give cleansers, soaps, and shampoos their latherability and parabens (including Butylated hydroxytoluene Formaldehyde Benzophenone Ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate Octinoxate and Ethanolamines)

I purchase my Sukin products from the Natural Dispensary and am able to share my 15% discount code MJR015 for you, if you want to give it a try

WHAT I’M USING IN THE KITCHEN…..

We love avocados in the Rose household, but don’t always want to eat a whole one at a time. I discovered these Avocado Storage Pods a while ago. At the time thought it might be a novelty purchase that will never see the light of day! However, I have to say it is in use daily! Top tip: always keep the stone in the half you are storing. You might just need to just scrape off the very top layer of the cut avocado– but underneath it’s well preserved!

There are lemon storage pods available too – and just as useful!

WHAT I’VE LISTENED TO ….

In this insightful podcast with Dr Chatterjee and Professor Marc Brackett, they discuss why so many of us struggle to express and regulate our emotions, and the impact this has on our physical and mental health.

This is so relevant to the work that I do with those who battle with emotional eating where food is so often used as a mechanism to avoid having to ‘feel’ unwanted emotions. The key is to become an ‘emotion scientist’, to learn and understand very specifically how you are really feeling? I thoroughly recommend listening right to the end.
